Ahhh, Zion National Park. We didn't realize that we were going to have enough time on our trip for a quick visit to Zion but we're really glad that we did. All we did was drive into the park to the visitor's center as we didn't have enough time to take the shuttle further into the park but we saw just enough to know that we need to return...
We thought we'd already seen big rock after having spent a week at Capitol Reef and more time at Bryce Canyon but nothing we saw before prepared us for what we were about to see at Zion. This million year old hunk of rock used to be a giant sand dune at one time... zion Canyon Overview

Here's what that dune looks like from the side. Monstrous and delicately patterned...
This place is another one of those where you can't turn around without seeing some other jaw-dropping feature... zion Canyon Overview

This photo was taken near the visitor's center. That rock had a name but, of course, I can't remember what it was....
Here's another unique and interesting slab of rock and another of my favorite shots.... zion Canyon Overview

The dark vertical streaks on this cliff are called "Desert Varnish" and are caused by water running down the cliffs. The waterfalls must be an awesome sight....
That dark oval hole in the lower right center of the picture is a ventilation hole in the long tunnel that we're going to travel back through on our way out of the Park. Hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we did... zion Canyon Overview
